Encounters’ Shop in Dewsbury
Pro-active engagement
Encounters devised a series of interventions around the town centre to engage with people and draw them into the shop, as well as mentoring five local artists to devise their own.

Lost and found dragons on Spirit night in Dewsbury

To engage people before the shop was officially open, we set up an intervention on Spirit night - an outdoor spectacle event - to draw some of the 1,000s of attenders into the shop. We invited people to return lost dragons hidden around Dewsbury to the Encounters shop. People who returned a dragon were asked to select two dragon powers they needed in life as a reward, and chalk a response on the blackboard to 'What's the Spirit of Dewsbury?'. |
Lost chicks returned to the nest

An invitation to return a lost chick to the Encounters shop and be rewarded. People returning the chicks hidden round town became the parent of the chick after selecting a name, qualities they needed to be a good parent, and making a real nest for it. |
Sow a Seedling for World Environment Day

An invitation to plant seedlings sown in the shop by people of Dewsbury, into our planters on the pavement outside the shop, and write on a stick one intention to change something in your daily life to live more sustainably. |
