Deodar Road

We worked with residents of Deodar Road in advance of the Shimmy Day to turn their road into a playful scene of unexpected happenings for the day. Working with the overall theme of the Festival LOOK AGAIN we wanted visitors to the road to LOOK AGAIN at others and their surroundings and working with the residents and a group of volunteer performers we aimed to create a beautiful, human and playful encounter with everyday life on Deodar road.

Residents selected an overall theme of The Unexpected as well as a secondary theme, The Power of Nature, especially water as Deodar Road is right on the edge of the river. Residents selected objects to place in windows and their front gardens as well as coming up with activities that invited others to join in. A large proportion of residents of all ages from the street took part as well as hundreds of visitors.
